Welcome, leave and boost messages
NadekoBot can post a message every time someone joins, leaves or boosts your server, and send new members a DM. You write each message, test it, then turn it on in the channel where it should appear.
Four messages for three events
There are four messages, and you can turn on any combination of them: a greet message in a channel when someone joins (.greetmsg), a greet DM to the new member (.greetdmmsg, on its own or together with the greet message), a bye message when someone leaves (.byemsg) and a boost message when someone boosts the server (.boostmsg).
There is no bye DM: NadekoBot can only DM someone it shares a server with, so a member who left might never get it.
Every message can use placeholders, such as %user.mention% for the new member, and embeds that you make in the embed builder.
-
.greetmsgSet the message for members who join. -
.greetdmmsgSet the DM that new members get. -
.byemsgSet the message for members who leave. -
.boostmsgSet the message for members who boost the server.
Test a message, then turn it on
A .greetmsg, .byemsg or .boostmsg command only sets the message, so you can run it in any channel. Test the message before you turn it on: .byetest sends the bye message as if you had just left the server, and .byetest @someone as if they had. .greettest, .greetdmtest and .boosttest do the same for the other messages. For .greetdmtest, keep your DMs open.
Then go to the channel where the message should appear and turn it on there with .greet, .bye or .boost. .greetdm works in any channel, because the message goes to the new member's DMs.
-
.greettestSend the greet message as if you had just joined. -
.byetestSend the bye message as if you had just left. -
.greetTurn greet messages on in this channel, or off. -
.byeTurn bye messages on in this channel, or off. -
.boostTurn boost messages on in this channel, or off. -
.greetdmTurn greet DMs on or off.
Delete the messages after a while
When many people join or leave, the messages can fill up a channel. .greetdel, .byedel and .boostdel delete each message a number of seconds after NadekoBot sends it, up to 600 seconds. 30 or 60 seconds works well. Set it to 0 to keep the messages.
Greet DMs are never deleted, because they go to the member's DMs and not to your server.
Set it up in 3 steps
- Invite NadekoBot, then write your welcome message:
.greetmsg Welcome, %user.mention%! - See it as a new member would:
.greettest - Turn it on in your welcome channel:
.greet
Questions about welcome messages
Can NadekoBot send new members a welcome DM?
Yes - set the DM with .greetdmmsg and turn it on with .greetdm, in any channel. You can have the DM and the greet message in a channel both on, or only one of them.
Why is there no DM when someone leaves?
NadekoBot can't DM a user it shares no server with, so there is no guarantee the member who left would get it.
How do I stop welcome messages from filling up the channel?
Delete them after a while: .greetdel 30 deletes each greet message 30 seconds after it is sent, and .byedel and .boostdel do the same for the others. Set 0 to keep them.
Can the welcome message ping @everyone or a role?
Only if you have the Mention Everyone permission when you set the message. Otherwise NadekoBot removes @everyone, @here and role mentions from it before it saves it.
Can I use an embed as a welcome message?
Yes - make the embed in the embed builder, copy the JSON, and paste it after .greetmsg (or .byemsg, .boostmsg or .greetdmmsg).
How do I turn welcome messages off, or move them to another channel?
Run .greet again to turn greet messages off. To move them, turn them off, then run .greet in the new channel. .bye, .boost and .greetdm work the same way.
